Should States have the right to oppose the Federal Government on Stem Cell Research? Why or Why not? Use examples from article to support your stand!
States should be able to refuse the pursuance of Stem Cell Research, even if the newly elected President is encouraging and funding the scientific experiments. Because the country has never accepted a single embryo as a person, scientists believe that what they're researching and doing is perfectly acceptable. While, other religious and non religious citizens find stem cell research appalling and some go as far as to consider it murder. Because of all the differing opinions and views, not all the states should be forced to allow this form of embryo study.
A controversial subject such as Stem Cell research can worsen the economy during the recession, if not taken care of properly. When all the states are forced to fund and allow this process, will be when the citizens will start rebelling against their own country, the last thing the US needs. Therefore, certain states should allow it and certain states should ban it, so the people can choose what they want to support. The state of Georgia is trying to pass a bill that will ban the destruction of fertilized embryos, "which the legislation considers a person." The passing of this bill will prove that states have the right to oppose the federal government.
All states have different characteristics, different needs, different areas of focus, what would be right for the majority of the United States would not be right for the entire United States. Each state needs to follow the constitution and support the president, but should be able to annex certain laws that their state does not agree with.

The president does not have a constitutional right to politically encourage stem cell research. The constitution only allows for congress to encourage scientific advance. Furthermore, it lists a certain way in which Congress can do this: temporarily granting groups the sole right to do certain scientific research. Essentially, all congress can do is grant limited monopolies to certain people. It has no right to hand out money to organizations. The constitution clearly states that the federal powers are enumerated, meaning that only those powers which it specifically gives the government can be exercised.
Of course the States have the right to oppose the Federal government. According to Madison, the primary maker of the Constitution, and the most prolific "Federalist" writer, each state is an individual country, exercising power over its citizens. This power is by no means to be impeded upon by the Federal government. According to Madison, Hamilton, and other makers of the Constitution, the Constitution did not consolidate the states into one country, but rather it was more like the United Nations. Therefore, any state has the right to enforce its own legislation, no matter what the Federal government says. The states by no means have to respect the presidents decisions. Patrick Henry, an "anti-federalist" feared that the president, and the federal government would become what it has today. It was because he thought that people in future times would misunderstand the constitution in the way that they have today, that he opposed the ratifying of the Constitution. If you don't believe what I have said, get a copy of the "Federalist Papers" and the "Anti-Federalist Papers" Madison Hamilton, and Jay wrote int eh Federalist papers, and Patrick Henry and others wrote in the "anti-federalist papers"
By the way, it is nice to hear someone voice their opinion on this issue. At least someone cares about what the States and the Federal gov. can and cannot do.
